> ## Agent Instructions
> SeedOps CLI browser login is the default for agents. Use --limit 1–50 to retrieve only needed signals. Read /agent-setup/prompt.md for setup. Never request credentials in a prompt.

# Market questions

> Count, group, compare and find companies from the CLI or API, then pull only the records you need.

Use these commands to size a market before spending records. Every filter from [search](https://docs.seedops.co/guides/search.md) works with them, including `--q`, `--days`, `--country`, `--city`, `--employees` and `--about`.

## Totals by anything

```bash theme={null}
seedops stats --by country --q drone --days 90 --table
seedops stats --by week --q '"contract win"' --country US
seedops stats --by company --q hiring --days 30 --top 20
```

`--by` takes `country`, `city`, `industry`, `category`, `size`, `company`, `day`, `week` or `month`. Each row gives activities, distinct companies and the latest date. `total` covers the whole search and is always exact. `--top` chooses how many rows (1–100, default 50), and `nextCursor` gets the next ones.

Stats are free, except `--by company`, which uses 1 record per company named.

## Several named searches at once

```bash theme={null}
seedops themes \
  --theme 'Contract wins=awarded OR "won the contract"' \
  --theme 'New offices="new office" OR relocated' \
  --country US --days 90
```

Each theme returns its activities and distinct companies. `anyTheme` counts companies once across all themes. Use up to 12 themes and 60 search terms in total, or keep them in a JSON file with `--themes-file`. Themes are free.

## Check quality before trusting a count

```bash theme={null}
seedops search --q '"contract win"' --employees 50-999 --sample 14
```

`--sample` returns random matches, up to 50, so you can read a fair selection instead of only the newest. Each returned activity uses 1 record, so a small budget can use `--sample 5`.

## Find companies by what they do

```bash theme={null}
seedops companies --about '"access control" OR "structured cabling"' --city Nashville
seedops companies --q hiring --days 30 --country DE --min-signals 3 --sort latest
```

`--about` searches what companies say they do, with the same rules as `--q`. It also works as a filter on `search`, `stats` and `themes`. `--min-signals` keeps companies with at least that many matching activities. Each company returned uses 1 record.

## One result per company

```bash theme={null}
seedops search --q hiring --days 30 --per-company --limit 20
seedops search --semantic "opening a new warehouse" --per-company --limit 20
```

`--per-company` returns one activity per company: the newest, or the closest match in semantic search. `companyMatches` says how many matched in keyword mode.

## Your own company list

```bash theme={null}
seedops lists create "My accounts" --file accounts.txt
seedops stats --by category --list <list-id> --days 30
seedops search --list <list-id> --days 7
```

The file holds names or slugs, one per line, or the first column of a CSV, up to 5,000. The answer says how many matched and shows examples of those that did not. Saving under the same name replaces the list. `seedops lists` shows yours, and `seedops lists delete <id>` removes one. Lists are private to your account and free.

## Sharper filters

| Flag | Meaning |
| - | - |
| `--city Nashville,Franklin` | Companies based in these cities |
| `--employees 50-999` | Any employee range |
| `--exclude-industry Staffing,Legal` | Leave out industries containing these words |
| `--exclude-country US` | Leave out these countries |
| `--poster company` or `person` | Who posted it: a company page or a person |

## Save results, with a spending cap

```bash theme={null}
seedops export --q hiring --country DE --days 30 --max-records 500 --format csv --out hiring.csv
```

`--max-records` is required and is never exceeded. The file only appears when the export finishes, so a failure cannot damage an earlier one; until then the rows are in `<file>.partial`. To continue after a failure, run the same command with the `--idempotency-key` the error gives you. Pages you already paid for return free for 24 hours.

## Who posted it

Search, export and `seedops signal` results include `authorName`, `authorTitle`, `authorUrl` and `activityUrl`, the original post's address. `authorTitle` is usually empty, so open `authorUrl` for the person's role. Add `--poster person` to get posts by named people. The original post text is not provided.

## Very broad questions

Most answers take a few seconds, and the broadest up to about 25. If one runs out of time you get `504 query_timeout`, which costs nothing. Narrow the search, or add `--patient` to allow up to 2 minutes, limited to 10 such requests a minute.

## Pages

Every list returns `nextCursor`. Repeat the same filters with `--cursor` to continue. Samples have no further pages.
